About me

OccupationFirst year student, MA/PhD Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies, History Department, Pennsylvania State University
LocationState College, PA, United States
IntroductionBorn and raised in France by an English mother and an Italian father, it was perhaps inevitable that I should become an avid student of human culture...! I completed my BAs in Archaeology, Classics, and History at The George Washington University in 2003, and received an MPhil degree in Classical Archaeology from the University of Cambridge in 2004. After taking some time off, during which I was lucky to work at the Alexandria Archaeology Museum in Virginia, I decided to complete my academic career here at Penn State, in a program which allows me to explore my interdisciplinary interests, with the support and encouragement of both professors and peers. I have previously excavated at Bignor Roman Villa in the U.K., at the pre-Roman Crustumerium Cemetery in Rome, and at an 18th century, slave-run laundry house in Alexandria, VA. I also acquired extensive experience in processing artifacts by volunteering at the Alexandria Archaeology Museum Lab during my college years and later. If you are interested in learning more about volunteer/student opportunities in archaeology, please feel free to email me!
InterestsAs a student of the ancient world, my interests involve the use of both history and archaeology. Thus far, my studies have focused on the relationship between Greece and the Near East in the Early Iron Age period (ca.1200-1000 B.C.E.). In addition to my interest in the process of cultural exchange, I am also drawn to studying the socio-political significance of settlement patterns as a means of better understanding human dynamics of interaction and the cultural signification of the use of space.
