| Introduction | My name is Janet, but I am known as "Nana" to 10 (soon to be 11) grandchildren. In May of 2014 I became a first time owner of 12 baby chicks... well, maybe not the first time. When I was a little girl, many years ago, the Easter Bunny left my sister and me a few of those baby chicks that were dyed with shades of pastel colors. We kept them until their white feathers started growing out and then had to rehome them on our great grandfather's farm. It was quite different this time, I didn't have my parents to rely on helping me with the chicks. My goal was to just keep them alive after reading all the horror stories on the web regarding all the fatal conditions and diseases that could affect the chicks. I ordered 12 pullets from "My Pet Chicken" and luckily I received 12 pullets and no cockerels. As of today (February 2015) Nana's Chickens are 38 weeks old and so far are doing great and giving our family about 5 dozen eggs a week in a variety of colors. Read more on my blog about my chickens, what I have learned, and what they are teaching me. |
