Introduction	I like calling North Carolina home. But I also love to travel. This works out well if you have a willing and able traveling companion. My husband, who said he wanted to be referred to in my blog as “Buck,” will go to remote wilderness in Canada to fish or to the Dakotas to hunt. Despite this, he maintains that he does not like to travel very much. We were discussing my “want to visit” list—which includes Egypt, Israel, the Arctic Circle, Japan, Vietnam, New Zealand, and several countries in Africa and South America—and commenting that world events such as earthquakes and political unrest were thwarting my plans. I asked Buck where he would like to go. With little hesitation came his reply: “I might like to visit Caldwell County one weekend.” So, after I returned home at the end of March from another delightful visit to Italy and Greece, we began exploring our home state more thoroughly. Tag along with us! I hope you’ll be inspired to visit some of the sites yourself. The more I travel, the more I appreciate North Carolina.
