Introduction Why Iron and Chrome? Too many marketers spend their time only on the chrome finish. They ignore the essential "ironwork" that is required to build a brand for the long term: Consumer Understanding. Product Understanding. Consumer Insights. Vision. Positioning statement. Strategy Archectiture and on. Instead their days are spent on the shiny tricks and tactics that lure consumers to evaluate the brand. The "chrome" that masks the shotty, haphazard construction underneath. They are all about trial, but never build loyalty. Great brands have both, iron and chrome, and both are essential for enduring success.
Interests I grew up in the South in a family of serial entreprenuers. I fell in love with marketing in high school and have followed that muse through college, graduate school and across my career. I have an MBA from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke, have worked in Brand Management at Procter & Gamble and Coca-Cola and for the last decade I have been marketing music for EMI. Currently I am CMO/SVP of a Division of EMI Music in Nashville. Music consumers led me into technology a decade ago where I have had a front line seat for all things digital. Fascinating and frustrating times to be sure. I am still trying to figure it all out and decide what I want to do if I ever grow up. Writing a blog and microblog help me think and spark learning. Thanks for reading.
