| Introduction | I grew up in Youngstown in an Irish-Slovak household. I attended Cardinal Mooney HIgh School, where I was a member of the state champion speech team. I was a state qualifier in dramatic interp, which led me to my career as a speech, drama and English teacher. I earned a B.A in Comprehensive Communications from Youngstown State and an M.A.from Akron University in theatre. I taught in 3 school systems, Boardman, Wooster and Smithville. I was "Outstanding Young Educator" for Wooster City Schools in 1985. I was awarded a Diamond Key from the National Forensic's League for twelve years of coaching. My first two teams earned National Chapter Award and my Wooster students were district champions. I also directed high school theatre, worked at the local arts center as the drama director, and started my own children's theatre called The Imagination Children's Theatre in 2005. I have acted in community, university and repertory theatres throughout Ohio. I began writing for The Wooster Daily Record over twenty years ago, completing over 1,000 columns.I have taught writing and speech at OSU in Wooster for the past 10 years. |
