| Introduction | Herminio Rodríguez born in Madrid, Spain in 1971 and raised in Puerto Rico, Owns and holds a Photography Studio in San Juan, Puerto Rico and works around the World, currently living in Chicago. .My artistic practice uses photography as a critical tool to examine the relationships between space, memory, and social structures. Working across fine art, documentary, and installation-based approaches, I explore how histories of colonialism, migration, labor, and cultural identity are inscribed in everyday environments and bodies. Photography, for me, is both an act of witnessing and a method of questioning how meaning is constructed through images. Much of my work emerges from sustained engagement with specific communities and geographies, particularly Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and diasporic contexts in the United States. Through long-term projects, I investigate the tensions between visibility and erasure, public narratives and private experience, and the political implications of representation. Rather than treating photography as neutral documentation, I approach it as a mediated space where power, subjectivity, and history intersect. |
