It is housed at Anderson Middle School, but is open to students throughout the school district. Laura Scribner and Rob Snyder-Pitts serve as the Educational Facilitators. Block scheduling allows students and teachers to take advantage of several class periods back-to-back so that the curriculum can be introduced thematically. Research shows students achieve an increased understanding when curriculum (learning) areas are interwoven, just as we experience them in our daily lives. Concepts Consolidated students are encouraged to take responsibility for ownership of their academic and personal achievements. Student-led conferencing is a strategy used to give students opportunities to demonstrate their growing control over their growing control over their learning. Concepts Consolidated students have many choices - work levels, project options, and novels read. Cooperative learning and group work is emphasized. Teamwork, a necessary skill in the workplace, plays an important role in Concepts Consolidated. Students and teachers view teamwork as a productive means of accomplishing tasks. Students frequently work in teams, on large and small projects, with other students of various skills and abilities. The team-teaching model of Ms. Scribner and Mr. Snyder-Pitts gives students a firsthand look at how teamwork translates into the adult world. |
