Introduction Nythamar "Nita" de Oliveira is Professor of the School of Humanities, Pontifical Catholic University at Porto Alegre, Brazil (PUCRS), since 1999, Coordinator of the Assessment Area of Philosophy at the Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES), 2018-22, and National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) Fellow, since 1995. Nita undertook undergraduate studies in philosophy and theology and a Master's in Theology from Aix-en-Provence (1983-87), before earning a Master's and Ph.D. in Philosophy (Villanova, 1990; State University of New York, 1994). He did postdocs at the New School for Social Research (1997-98), London School of Economics (2004-05), University of Kassel (2005), the University of Toledo, OH (2007-08), and the University of Miami (2015-16). He was awarded the Humboldt Fellowship in 2004-05 and has expertise in Ethics, Political Philosophy & Phenomenology. Nita is the founder of the Brazilian Society for Phenomenology, the Brazilian Center for Research in Democracy, PUCRS Center for Applied Ethics and Research Group in Neurophilosophy at the Brain Institute (InsCer), and a member of the Clinical Bioethics Committee.
