| Introduction | My particular call to ministry is specific to word, service, compassion, and justice (Deacon). Thus far in responding to that call I have discovered a passion in working with adults in crisis (theological and existential). I regularly participate in presentations with NAMI for in-patients that offer examples of hope to those who struggle with stigmatizing and with debilitating illnesses. Weekly I volunteer at a breakfast ministry to the homeless and displaced in DC, which also helps me maintain a practical focus on my studies and not become lost in the ivory tower and forget the real people to whom I feel led to minister. I have been serving as a chaplain intern at a Retirement Community for the past year and continue gain experience with every conversation there in chaplaincy and pastoral counseling (two areas of ministry to which I feel particularly called). For the past four plus years my personal response to prayer has been consistently a direction to “wait and be patient”. In attempting to follow that direction I have learned what I call proactive waiting and have discovered that when I get out of my own way, God always and consistently leads me somewhere amazing. |
