| Introduction | Hi and welcome to my blog. This blog is dedicated to following my progress from problem drinker with an overloaded, stress-filled, unhealthy lifestyle and a business that requires some serious attention to a fully in control, healthy, happy father, partner and business owner. If you are interested in observing how I decided to tackle my problems in a somewhat unorthodox manner, including juice and water fasting, predominantly raw food diet, a high intensity exercise regime and the re-energising of my business, please stay and have a wander through my posts. I encourage you to share this blog if you wish, to comment if you feel so moved and to subscribe if you are wanting to accompany me through this process of life renewal. Hope to see you here again, Cheers, Glenn i am |
| Interests | My major interest at this point in my life is my family and their happiness and well-being. This is obviously my motivation for the changes I am establishing in my life. My partner Joanne is the absolute central rock of my life and none of what I am attempting would be possible without her unering, unconditional love, support, soul, honesty, care and deep knowledge of health, body and spirit. My children are the brilliant lights of my life. Zana, who is 6 years old, is so wonderfully creative, with a startling imaginitive capacity and a love for story telling and dance. She is also amazingly thoughtful, wise and so compassionate to her fellow beings. She teaches me so much every day. Jitendra, who is 2, is the cheeky spark that keeps my playful, carefree child inside alive. He has so much zest for life, is so interested in the world around him and so very sharp and intelligent. He is also fearless in that "gravity has nothing to do with me" way that boys are often blessed with. The sheer glee I see on his face as he speeds around on his push-bike when we go riding in the Carlton Gardens brings me immeasurable joy. A great teacher also. This is my family who give me all their love and I love them more than I can express in return. They are my reasons. |
| Favorite movies | I could fill this with many, many titles but that really tells you nothing so I will pick 21 that may tell you something: "Dead Man" Jim Jarmusch, "Lost Highway" David Lynch, "The Searches" John Ford, "La Dolce Vita" Federico Fellini, "Breathless" Jean-Luc Godard, "The Party" Blake Edwards, "Key Largo" John Huston, "Throw Momma from the train" Danny DeVito, "The Shining" Stanley Kubrick, "Meet the Feebles" Peter Jackson, "Django" Sergio Corbucci, "Touch of Evil" Orson Welles, "City of Lost Children" Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet, "Wings of Desire" Wim Wenders, "Heart of Glass" Werner Herzog, "News from the Good Lord" Didier Le Pecheur, "The Fifth Element" Luc Bessen, "Kundun" Martin Scorses, "Heat" Michael Mann, "Baraka" Ron Fricke and, of course, the immortal "Days of Thunder" Tony Scott ; ) just realised I missed the greatest movie of all time that I have loved since I was about 10 years old, "The Blues Brothers" !!! (and, of course, there is the subgenre of Music Documentaries; "Woodstock", "The Last Waltz", "Don't Look Back", all the Beatles movies, anything about Bruce Springsteen, all the Stones docos etc etc etc ) . . . and then, of course, another subgenre I love is the epic; "Laurence of Arabia", "Cleopatra", "Ben Hur", "Sparticus" . . . I really need to stop. |
| Favorite music | As a musician it's kind of silly to even attempt to list favourite music so here are some eternal favourites I have kept coming back to : The Band, The Rolling Stones, The Church, Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, Thelonious Monk, Edvard Grieg, Ludwig van Beethoven, Bela Bartok, Sam and Dave, Ray Charles, Etta James, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, oh, I gotta stop I'm getting carried away . . . |
| Favorite books | As with music, too too many books so here are a couple of the titles I read over and over: "Siddhartha" Herman Hess, "Immortality" Milan Kundera and "The Collected Works of William Blake", oh, "Catch 22" Joseph Heller gets laughs no matter how many times I read it. oh, I read "The Dice Man" every so often, I find it repositions my perspective every time, and there have been a couple of books over the last few years that have really moved me and had enormous impact. In particular; "Soul Mountain" by Gao Xingjian, "The Lay of the Land" Richard Ford and "The Time of our Singing" Richard Power - this later book I cannot recommend highly enough, possibly one of the most powerful books I have ever read. It also feels about time to revisit "Stranger in a Strange Land" Robert H Heinlein. Despite my dislike of much New Age work Richard Bach's little book "Illusions" has been a constant, as has the work of John Ralston Saul. My favourite philosopher at present is the popularist Alain De Botton. |
