| Introduction | I have a very rare brain tumor that secrets too much of a hormone thus is progressively lethal. Surgery failed. No successful meds for it. In 2005-2006 I was in a clinical trial for an Investigational drug (SOM230). They could find only 29 people worldwide to participate. I was one of the 22 that it helped. After the end of the study, it took until Feb 13, 2012 for my diligent Dr Jason Phillips along with others helping him, to get the FDA to ok my Compassionate Use prior to its approval. Novartis agreed to supplying it. They are currently testing to see what other conditions it may help, including pancreatic and other cancers. Although I was and am again on the twice-a-day version, they already have a once-a-month one! |
