IntroductionWhite male, born in the last century, not of a particularly capitalist frame of mind and seemingly destined to spend his time in the public service sector and answering daft questions - sometimes simultaneously.
InterestsOld things, new things, things of indeterminate age...including (but not limited to) Manchester City FC, Lancashire County Cricket Club, Cricket, Tennis, Golf, Rowing and so on...
Favorite moviesLots and lots dependant upon mood. In no particular order then :- anything by the Coen Brothers (especially Blood Simple, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Art Thou), most things by Sergio Leone, most things with Clint Eastwood in them, Betty Blue, Krzysztof Kieślowski's "Three Colours" trilogy, Caché, Chocolat (lets just say most things with Juliette Binoche in them!), Woody Allen (especially when he was funny), Bogart / Cagney films (especially The Big Sleep & White Heat), Marx Brothers movies, anything Laurel & Hardy, most of Johnny Depp's work (especially What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Benny & Joon, Ed Wood), Bond films. In TV terms, the BEST THING EVER is The Prisoner. Star Trek, Doctor Who and The Rockford Files are very close behind. Enough!
Favorite musicJust as much really - anything by Prince and most associated artists, George Clinton / Parliament and similar funk. Apart from that, lets see what's alphabetically on my iPod:- Air, Arctic Monkeys, Basement Jaxx, Beck, Black Grape / Happy Mondays, Blondie, Blur, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Ferry, Captain Beefheart, The Cure, The Doors, Elbow, Foo Fighters, Goldfrapp, Jimi Hendrix, The Kinks, Lemonheads, Leonard Cohen (Top Man), Massive Attack, New Order, Nirvana, Pixies, REM, Radiohead, Ramones, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Scissor Sisters, The Smiths, Specials, Stone Roses, Talking Heads, Ting Tings, Wendy & Lisa etc...
Favorite booksFar too many to list here so I will only make a token effort:- Lots of Latin & Greek stuff (flashbacks to a long past life), particularly Virgil's Aeneid, Cicero's Phillipics, Caesar's various writings (easy to translate!), Ovid's Metamorphoses. Beyond that, all Thomas Hardy (you can't beat a good miserabilist), George Orwell, Carson MacCullers, Lord Byron, Spike Milligan, Herman Melville, John Cooper Clarke, Oscar Wilde. That sounds like a good dinner party guest list, lets leave it there...
