| Introduction | The Amana Colonies isn’t really a town. It is a group of seven different villages that are located in unincorporated Iowa County, Iowa. How many Americans can say they live in a village? Not many, so people get confused when I tell them I live in one, so for your sanity and mine, we’ll call it a town, ok? Great. Amana has a very interesting history for the long version visit www.amanaheritage.org. But the short version is that from 1855-1932 the Amana Colonies were a religious communal society. This is the only place in the world you can find the Amana Church. And no, sorry, Amish people do not live here. The Amana refrigerator was invented here, and is still made here. There about 1700 people that call the Amana Colonies home. I feel lucky to both live and work here in the Amana Colonies. On this blog I will share with you what makes this town so special. Along the way I will ask some of my friends to share what they love about my town too. If you love the Amana Colonies, email me at amanacoloniesblogger@gmail.com, I'm looking for guest bloggers. |
