Introduction	This class will cover world events that have occurred since the end of World War II. Why World War II? As William Shakespeare says in The Tempest “what is past is prologue…” In other words, history repeats itself. Many of the events that we are witnessing today, such as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the conflict brewing between the two Koreas, have their roots in conflicts that occurred in the last 50 or 60 years; this is your parents and grandparents (and your) history. In 25, 15, or even 10 years, today’s events will be history. In addition to looking at the past, our task will be to look at current events and attempt to determine how they might impact future generations.
