After the 2004 tsunami, my husband Roy was commissioned by Saddleback Church of Lake Forest (Pastor Rick Warren, author of best selling book, "The Purpose Driven Life") to bring medical teams and funds during the initial relief crisis phase. After about six months of him going back and forth, I decided to quit my job and join him. Since then, we have found a way to provide ongoing long-term help to the people of Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia. We started a factory in which our manager trains tsunami survivors how to embroider beautifully unique handbags. Once they are made, they then send them to the US where we market and sell them. We started our workshop in Aceh with 12 survivors of that tragic disaster. Today, nearly 3 years later, we are able to help nearly 300.
