| Introduction | The author is a former physics professor, department chairperson, and dean at Ohio State University, and from 1996-2006 served as president of Miami University, in Oxford, OH. He was educated at Princeton Univ.(A.B.), and Cornell Univ.(Ph.D.) and was an N.S.F Postdoctoral Fellow at the Univ. of Cambridge. His academic speciality is condensed matter physics. He is the author of more than one hundred research papers, has taught at all levels of the physics curriculum, and has supervised 26 Ph.D. and postdoctoral students.
