IntroductionI am a frustrated writer. Forty years ago I was walking past the Stonewall in June of 1969 on Christopher Street in the Village with a friend Rich Warren and was present for one of the busts of the Stonewall. We had just left the Lions Head on Sheridan Square and 7th Avenue. Just as we passed the Stonewall the doors burst open and gay guys who were screaming streamed out into the street. I jokingly said to Rich... "don't hold my hand." Then I saw the police and that Sheridan Square was blocked off with school buses. I said, "let's get out of here." I forgot about this for about 30 years. Yep. I was almost a poster boy for gay liberation... I can just hear myself: "But officer, we're straight." "Sure sonny" he'd have said, "now be a good lad and get on the bus." A few weeks later I had sold my East Village Apartment and had married my girlfriend and I was off to Paris to write the great American novel. A yearr later after having read most of Ayn Rand's works, I returned to the USA to become a capitalist.
