| Introduction | As a runner I've now clocked up more than 31,000 miles and entered more than 1,100 races. As a Luton Town supporter I've attended around 1,000 games. OK, so those stats suggest a touch of madness, not to mention a heavy toll on mind and body. Running and supporting the Hatters are two habits that have proved impossible to quit. But they have at least provided raw material for my working life: At the last count I'd had 20 books published, five of them about running, four on Luton Town FC.
