About me

Introduction I was born Oct. 1917 into a group of German Socialist, Anarchist, Nature friends, and freethinkers. A troubled child in school, I was saved by a shop teacher who worked with me for a year, giving me skills and self-esteem. I left school after 8th grade for a series of jobs which led to being NY State President of the Machinists' Union. Being at odds with the International Union and blacklisted as an organizer, I eventually got work as a manager. Key jobs included supervising a work program for 4-600 juvenile delinquent adolescents during the Anti-poverty Programs of the Johnson Administration; working at the Ford Foundation to advance programs in employment, community development, and the changing nature of work; and conulting with corporations and unions on labor/management relationships. Now in my 90th year, I am building antigue furniture and becoming an internet blogger. Two of my books, "Ten Thousand Working Days" and "Wasn't That a Time: Growing Up Radical and Red in America", both MIT Press, hold more in-depth information.
