| Introduction | Each day we're overloaded with cultural influences that compete for our attention. With such inundation, an individual can be jaded into offering his or her "loyalty" to seemingly significant, but in fact, superficial minutiae. During the height of the Roman empire, the Praetorian Guard was dedicated to protecting only those emperors deemed worthy, and to whom they showed the fiercest of loyalty.
