| Introduction | Born in Bradford, raised in Otley in West Yorkshire. One of three brothers. My parents ran a small garage - mainly repairs to crashed cars, repainting etc. My dad worked long hours, and my mother worked as secretary, picker up of parts, etc. I swept up for pocket money. Then we'd go home about 6.00ish. Left school at 17 - in the middle of A levels - and went to catering college. During this time I became a Christian. I'd gone to Sunday school as a young boy, however, like many others I left all that when I was about 12. I have great memories of belonging to a great youth group. We went camping, evangelising, all night prayer meetings, trips to rallies, concerts, and fell in and out of love with various members like changing your socks! But that experience of the vitality and deep meaning of Christianity, as a life lived out rather than simply doctrines to be believed, stays with me still. In 1977, aged 22 I went to train as a Methodist minister and am one still. |
