Introduction	The Zanzibar Institute of Tourism Development was established in 1992 by the name of Hotel and Tourism Training Centre, with the assistance of UNDP and ILO. The institute was established by Act No. 7 of 2008 of the Zanzibar House of Representatives, and the objective of the Centre was to provide basic skills in hotel operations. After turning to full Institute the objectives was increased to produce medium and higher management skills, also to provide academic pathways for those who would like to pursue further academic qualifications. From July 2008 the Institute became fully autonomous after the amendment of this Act. Currently, it is now called the Zanzibar Institute of Tourism Development (ZIToD). ZIToD aims to provide tourism educational programmes of quality tourism service. It seeks to identify and monitor Zanzibar tourism industry needs and satisfaction and is responsible for providing the tourism industry with personnel trained to international standards.
