| Introduction | I have played violin since 1977, viola since 1981, bass guitar since 1984 and guitar since 1986. My passion for the instruments and interest in their design and construction led to me performing repairs on my own instruments, through to complete rebuilds on derelict antique instruments. I have been an orchestral player since 1978, and a regular violist with the Taranaki Symphony Orchestra since 1995, and both viola and violin with the Ars Antiqua Chamber Orchestra since 2010. I have on occasion given lessons. From 1981 to 1983 my technique was deconstructed and rebuilt according to Kato Havas' New Approach technique by Nancy Johnson, herself a student of Kato Havas. My training was completed with a twelve-lesson master class with Kato in 1984. |
