| Introduction | I am a 36 year old sole mother. In a previous life, I alternated my working life between 'secretarying' and hospitality - I found both of them sucked, so I would switch regularly. You could never accuse me of being driven. I tried being happily married for a while and learnt the realities of co-dependency long before I heard of it as a real disorder. After a great escape, I spent most of my twenties being gloriously irresponsible in the UK. I had some amazing travelling experiences and met some amazing people, but when I turned 30 I decided I needed to come back, find home and get settled with a blokey and a kiddy. Despite best efforts, I was unsuccessful in the blokie department so with my previously dormant biological clock going berserk, I bypassed normality and got pregnant using donor sperm. My fabulous daughter was born last year and despite occasional moments when I wonder just what the hell I think I am doing, mostly I am as happy as a pig in mud. Having Anna is the best thing I have ever done - just because it's a cliché, doesn't make it untrue! |
