IntroductionWho am I? As the title of this blog suggests, I am a liturgist in a very ordinary Catholic parish in northern England. I have been involved with the music and liturgy of the Mass (and non-Eucharistic liturgies), on and off, for over thirty years – in both parishes and schools. I presently lead a music group that is comprised of one guitar, one mandolin, two flutes and up to about ten singers that leads the music at the Vigil Mass. I have no formal musical qualifications. I have no formal liturgical qualifications. So why have I created this blog? Because I was raised on a diet of lowest common denominator “liturgies” that didn’t nourish the spirit or do anything to raise the heart and mind to God, and I know that it doesn’t have to be like that. Because, without wishing to strum my own guitar, I’m told that we do a good job in our own parish. Because if there is anything that we do, with our own limited resources, that can assist or inspire others in their music and liturgy ministries then I am more than happy to share thoughts, ideas and experiences. Because I hope that you will share your thoughts, ideas and experiences. Because I was told to!!!
