| Introduction | The title is a reference to advice I received years ago from a classmate about how best to approach the Bible, "with sharp eyes and a gentle heart." I'm a first-year master's student in Hebrew Bible at a Divinity School, a 20-something lesbian Jewish feminist, doing my best to follow his advice.
