| Introduction | I left teaching (art) in my mid thirties,to begin a new life with my family,moving "back to the land" on a Canadian Gulf Island ( 'Building a Life'). We were prompted to do this as a result of our earlier experieces working with CUSO in Guyana ,S. America. We felt that if we could live simply on the land, there would be a little more available for the poorer parts of the world.We knew from our overseas experience that a happy life was not a matter of how much material wealth one had. As a Park Ranger for many years I became a life long advocate for the natural world.When our children were in their early teens we trailered a catamaran to Florida and sailed in the Bahamas ('The Amazon Adventure').In my fiftys,I rebuilt a wooden schooner and sailed the Pacific for several years ( 'The Shiriri Saga').I am married to Heather, and have three lovely daughters and seven splendid grandchildren. |

| Favorite books | I read a lot and in a number of areas.Right now I am rereading (for the fifth time)Patrick O` Brians series on the Royal Navy in Napoleonic times. |
