OccupationArt Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Community Activist, Artist
IntroductionI am an artist/ community activist who has spent over 10 years teaching art workshops in St. Louis, MO, teaching for St. Louis Public Schools, and working as an art therapist for children in St. Louis, MO and East St. Louis, IL. I am from small town IL with small town roots and a love of people. I graduated from SIUE with my undergrad in Art Education and my Masters in Art Therapy/Counseling. I moved to St Louis to teach art and continue my own art-making. What I saw was a need for children to be able to express themselves through art. After seeing violence in the Public School system and art-making work to provide a positive outlook for kids, I saw the need for Art Therapy. After hearing and witnessing countless stories of children who have survived and thrived through art expression, I knew it was a needed healing expression. My hope is that Art Therapy will one day be included in every St. Louis Public school. It is my goal to continue creating my own artwork as well as providing art therapy for community healing. That is why I write this blog, and continue to create art,..to encourage myself and others to tell their story!
