| Introduction | This world is a paradox. From one minute to the next, I find myself both conscious of its mystery and surprised by its predictability. It is no small challenge to translate the potency of this life into the mundane rigidity of words and pictures. It is in music, then, that I find the truest language with which to honor such a world: it blends life's opposites into a harmony of extremes that only sound can communicate. This is my faltering attempt to elucidate some of the ways that music has balanced this life. I hope to convey its ability to express the inexpressable--and in so doing, let out that which I hope you'll take in. Here's to the journey! |
