Introduction Describe myself? How about aging greenie who enjoys bushwalking and beading when she has time out from the correction and doing things with, or for, her family? During many years of teaching I have repeatedly found students wanting to call me "hippy". I'm not sure why. I'm too young - I was only eleven in 1969. And I work too hard to fit the stereotype I'm familiar with, of the lazy hippy. I think a defining moment for me was when, concerned about the conservative nature of the day's business, I asked my eighteen year-old daughter if I looked okay, not too hippyish. She said I looked fine, then went all thoughtful and said, "But Mum . . . you are a hippy." Perhaps it's my attitude to life. But all those years of varying levels of involvement with left-wing politics aren't going to change now. I can't stop believing in peace on Earth and goodwill to all mankind, even if I do phrase it "Make Love, not War!"
