| Introduction | Dr. Debidas Ray, FRCP [London], FRCP [Glasgow] is also a Fellow Emeritus of the American College of Chest Physicians. He is former Professor and Head of the Department of Chest Diseases, Christian Medical College, Vellore and currently a Consultant Chest Physician, based at Vellore. He has been writing Bengali poems from his school-days on and off. A collection of his Bengali poems ‘Smriti O Srijani’ was published in 2010. For over a decade he has been regularly writing English poems, it was the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore that prompted him to translate Tagore’s original Bengali poems into English and from June 2010 onwards Poetry World an International monthly published them till yr. 2013 which was the 100th Year of his Noble Award. From year 2011 Visva- Bharati- Quarterly Journal at Santiniketan has been regularly publishing his English Translations of Tagore’s poems. Most of the translated poems which were being displayed in this Blog from year 2012 – 14 are now available in his book ‘TAGORE and ME’ published by Partridge Publishing – A Penguin Random House Company - Bloomington, USA. New translations of Tagore poems will be posted in due course. |
