IntroductionHaving finished studying and then having worked for a bit, I decided to (finally) pursue my dream, and bought myself a round-the-world plane ticket. Never being one to like to plan too much, I'm basically making it up as I go, and travelling alone permits the flexibility to do that, which is fun! I like meeting new people, going to new places, and learning about other cultures. In the past, I have found myself naturally gravitating towards cities (especially ones which tell a story, like Paris, London and - most recently - Buenos Aires), but I feel that I need to learn to spend more time exploring the natural beauty this planet has to offer, before we succeed in destroying it.
Intereststravelling, meeting people from other cultures, spending time with people who know more than I do about things, eating, drinking, history, buildings, music
Favorite moviesDr. Strangelove is one of the funniest films I've seen, and it's a polital satire too, which is a bonus! Shawshank Redemption is in my opinion a good example of a great story well told, and all of Thomas Harris's superb Hannibal Lecter novels make good films. Generally, I like anything that takes a cutting look at society (such as Yes Minister, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder and People Like Us - if you're unfamiliar with British comedy, you've got a treat in store!)
Favorite musicI have played in orchestras and sung in choirs for most of my life, so most of my musical education has been classical. I love late romantic music, especially Russian, best. Live concerts I have enjoyed include Jamie Cullum, Zita Swoon, dEUS, Elton John, Mike Oldfield and The Divine Comedy. I'm a 5-year veteran of Fairport Convention's Cropredy Festival. I'm a recent convert to Scissor Sisters, Belle and Sebastian, French "chanteur/euse" music, Beaubourg; grew up listening to things like David Bowie, Queen, ELO, Harry Nilsson... you get the picture. I'd love to see Katie Melua or Robbie Williams live.
Favorite booksI enjoy Louis de Bernieres's books because his great skill in describing places and people makes you either feel like you're already there, or you want to be there, and he conjurs up a good mix of tragedy and comedy set against a backdrop of well-researched human history. Like reading anything from historical epics (e.g. Wilbur Smith), to legal thrillers (e.g. John Grisham's The Chamber). Haven't read too many classics, and to my shame, haven't touched Dickens since school. Read a few "gay-themed" books lately, some of which stand up in mainstream fiction, such as Jake Arnott's "The Long Firm". Some of my favourite books as a child were factual... I used to spend hours with books about how things work, or famous incidents, or the lives of the composers. I am currently reading "The Gringo Trail" by Mark Mann.

If you were a cannibal, what would you wear to dinner?

It depends on whether I was going to be in the company of other cannibals.
