Introduction Katherine Lupton is an International Baccalaureate Spanish teacher at Baltimore City College High School, a public school in Baltimore, MD. After completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon, Katherine taught English at a public school in Madrid, Spain for two years. While in Spain, Katherine perfected her Spanish and integrated herself into the local culture. As a student of the public school system herself, Katherine is an advocate for quality education in public schools and works to assure all of her students have access to opportunities to succeed. As a high school Spanish teacher, Katherine consistently integrates the Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) style foreign language teaching into her classroom. Katherine has involved her students for three years in the Advocacy Project, a community project that partners Baltimore City students with community groups in volunteer projects that promote the Latino community in Baltimore and further her student’s proficiency in Spanish. In June, Katherine took a group of students from Baltimore to Cuba, becoming the first high school group in the state of Maryland to travel to Cuba.
