Introduction I live on an oak studded hillside of golden grass in Northern California. Gardening is in my blood, and my days are intertwined with books, writing, music and animals. I have lived long enough to see three children launched into the world and elderly parents arrive to live lightly under my wing. The circle goes around. I relish my solitude, and am grateful for having energy enough to still work like that neon pink bunny with sunglasses and a drum. I don't sell my work, take commissions or teach classes. This puzzles people who enter my studio and without missing a beat want to know if I make money at my endeavors. I don't, but like any practitioner of alchemy, my energy goes into spinning things into gold. The materials used in my transmutations include: clay, stained glass, tile, mirror, beads, broken dishes, bottles, and words. I cover walls with bits and pieces of this and that and bind it all together with grout and love. Three hundred years from now I'm counting on a close descendant of Indiana Jones to unearth my work and shout, “Bingo!” In the meantime, I'm decorating my den in the ancient art of mosaics and hieroglyphics simply for my soul's sweet satisfaction.
