| Introduction | I am training for the Chicago Marathon and running to support the Walter and Connie Payton Foundation. We are committed to the healing of abused, neglected, and underprivileged children. I am also pursuing my masters degree in child development, specializing in child life. As a Child Life Specialist(CLS) I hope to have a positive influence on children and families by reducing the negative impact of stressful/traumatic events in a hospital setting. It is through working at a Chicago children's hospital that I became aware of the severity of child abuse. I believe that this is a devastating problem that can be reduced and ended with awareness and support. "More than five children die every day in the United States as a result of child abuse"-childhelp.org. Children who are abused and not helped have a higher risk of becoming abusers themselves, we need stop the cycle of abuse!
