| Introduction | A late convert to landscape architecture, I spent a decade in practice before coming back to teach on the course I originally qualified from. Having to educate and inspire new generations of landscape architects has restored my own passion for the subject and awareness of its breadth and complexity. Despite the continued struggle for recognition as a profession, I look back and feel that we have come a long way since I studied. Landscape Architects are now involved in leading a huge number of inspirational and influential projects all over the world. The discipline is beginning to fulfil Geoffrey Jellicoe's prediction that it would be THE design profession for the 21st century. My own interests focus on the aesthetics and delivery of Green Infrastructure; on the challenge of envisioning a new urban landscape which responds to the challenges of climate change while delivering dense, dynamic and liveable cities. |
