About me

Location Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Introduction For over a decade, Jon Delano has developed a solid reputation as the guy to turn to for even-handed analysis of political and governmental events and for a quick quip or sound bite on what exactly it all means to the average citizen. Having worked in both government and the private business world, practiced law, reported on radio and television, written extensively, and taught at the graduate school level, Jon's combined experiences allow him to speak with some authority about governmental, political, and economic issues. No surprise – he wears lots of hats. He teaches public policy to graduate students at Carnegie Mellon University’s H. John Heinz School of Public Policy & Management. He’s a monthly columnist for the Pittsburgh Business Times (“Government Busters”) where he has won two Golden Quills. He’s the money and politics editor for KDKA-TV (CBS) where he hosts a Sunday public affairs program.
Interests Jon's a regular guest on Pennsylvania Cable Network’s “Journalist Roundtable” seen throughout the commonwealth, and his voice is heard frequently on many radio stations. He attended and reported from both the Republican and Democratic presidential conventions in 1996, 2000, and 2004. From 1977 to 1991, Jon worked behind the scenes on Capitol Hill as a congressional chief of staff, serving as president of the U.S. House Chiefs of Staff Association in the mid-1980s. His reputation as an even-handed, non-partisan political analyst has led to his selection as a moderator and panelist for many candidate debates, including the 2006 debates between Ed Rendell and Lynn Swann (PA Governor) and Bob Casey and Rick Santorum (US Senate), and he is a popular speaker for many civic, business, and labor organizations. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Haverford College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Jon and his wife and their two children live in the suburbs of Pittsburgh.
