Introduction	I started running on mountain trails a few years ago after moving to the Steamboat Springs area. I was already an avid snowboarder and lover of the great outdoors. I ran about 40 road races while I was going to college, ranging in distance from 5k to the marathon, so I was familiar with endurance training and running regularly, but in the course of my life, I became very inconsistent with it. I stopped running for many years while going through my problematic late 20s/early 30s. In the summer of 2009, I was out on a trail run with my dog, Benihana, when we ran into a neighbor. We had seen Katie out running these trails a couple of times before, but this time she informed me that she was training to do the Run Rabbit Run Steamboat 50 mile Ultramarathon. I immediately decided to do the same. My eagerness got the better of me, however, and I ended up doing my first ultra in December 2009, The North Face Endurance Challenge in San Francisco.
