| Introduction | Palatines are said to be stubborn, likable ,hospitable, insubordinate, relaxed, attached to good food and drink, affiliated to their native soil, not very modest, always ready to tease their neighbours - and I declare myself guilty. In fact the average Palatine has very many things in common with a hobbit - apart from the hairy feet perhaps. Like Bilbo, I get occasionally bitten by the travel bug and when this happens I sometimes cover very large distances to see what wonders the world has in store for me. |
