| Introduction | I am passionately committed to ensuring that every child is able to receive a quality, public education. Upon graduating from Loyola University New Orleans I joined Teach for America and spent my first year teaching at Booker T. Washington Alternative school in New Orleans, LA. I fully authored and implemented a 7th and 8th grade mathematics curriculum that enabled my students to grow almost three grade levels in one academic year. I then moved to Kansas City, MO and taught for one year at KIPP: Endeavor Middle School, a public charter. Again, I developed a curriculum and assessment program from the ground up, and brought my 7th grade students to proficiency in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade strands. I have written on the parental responses to Louisiana's state education reforms, the economic policies that led to levee failures during Hurricane Katrina, and received recognition from President Clinton for founding a community microlending non-profit in New Orleans after the storm. I am seeking the opportunity to analyze and help solve the systemic failures that contribute to the achievement gap in public education across America. http://ElliotSanchez.com |

You're wearing a sweater that stretches down to your feet. What color belt do you put on?
Black. No one will make fun of a black belt, even if his sweater is too big.
