| Introduction | Riikka Hyvönen (b.1982) is a painter. She grew up in Lapland. Even though Lapland had a huge influence on her she felt the urge to see more and moved to Italy in
order to start her studies in visual arts. However it took her years until she had the opportunity to work in arts full time. Instead she worked in various different countries such as U.K., Ireland and the Channel Islands in various different positions as a stylist, make-up artist and hair stylist. She has done adverts, TV and worked with the likes of HIM. Her broad experience in the visual and media field eventually brought her back to arts. Now for the last few years she has studied arts and worked as an assistant for an artist.
In her own work Riikka refuses to play by the rules and give up on cuteness. She is not afraid of being childish or ridiculous. Her paintings often play with themes of femininity and childhood. When it comes to arts she trusts her intuition. Her goal is to maintain a genuine enthusiasm and avoid pretentiousness of all kind.
