| Introduction | I was born in a little town of less than 800 in Bavaria surrounded by forested hills. After finishing my Abitur there, I attended university in Nuremburg with the aim of becoming a teacher of English and History. The program sparked in me a deeper interest in the English language, but its focus on teaching left me unable to further pursue this avenue. I decided to start afresh, and sought a program that would allow me to indulge not only my fascination with English, but also my desire to explore society, culture, and especially literature. This led me to the American Studies Leipzig program. I found American literature and culture particularly interesting, so I made it my goal to work in the field of literature, specifically in the publishing business or in higher education. I’m very excited to be a part of ASL’s BA Plus program this year. It will give me the opportunity to draw from a wide range of courses that OU’s English department offers, to test my academic proficiency in the American work world, and most of all, to immerse myself in American culture and language. |
