About me

Introduction	I was born in Birmingham in 1959 to working class parents, and grew up on a council estate. After attending Colmers Farm Secondary Modern School, I studied music for three years aspiring to become a professional musician. However I abandoned my musical ambitions when I was offered a job in the Civil Service where I eventually became a VAT Control Officer which involved visiting businesses to inspect their records and accounts for VAT purposes. During lockdown I wrote my memoir "Confessions of a VAT Inspector" about this unusual job.
