Introduction	a dreamer and a parent, my memory is jammed in 1997, when i rode my bicycle day in and day out for 10 weeks among a community of cyclists on a transcontinental journey crossing north america, advocating sustainable transportation. i am a sociologist by academic training, a teacher in my country’s national university by profession and a feminist by heart. i have been working with community groups and women's organizations over the years and learning about their sources of disempowerment and empowerment. more specifically, discovering the diverse transport experiences of women and men in poor communities as well as hearing their voices about the present system of transport in their lives. right now I am based in bicycle paradise (the hague, NL) on the last stretch of my research on gender and transport.
