| Introduction | I graduated from Le Tourneau University. It is a Christian college and one of my requirements was to write and send weekly devotionals. This is actually where my writing started. I would have never written my thoughts or impressions down on paper before that; to divulge so much of myself would have been unheard of. But as I did it, I realized that I was acknowledging things that I spent much effort trying to forget. I soon found out that I enjoyed it so much I would randomly send out notes and devotions to anyone who would listen. I once heard someone say, “when God lays something on your heart it is nearly impossible to ignore”. Boy has that been true for me. |
| Interests | My favorite thing to do is to spend time in God’s word. It has not always been that way so finding pure joy in it now has really made a difference in my everyday life. My second favorite past time is just spending time with my family. I am close to celebrating my 16th anniversary with the love of my life and we have four beautiful children. I have recently learned that I love to read. I read some great books this past summer and am looking forward to carving out some time to read again this fall. |
| Favorite movies | My favorite movie used to be Legends of the Fall. I have always been drawn to the characters that passionately love but fail in their efforts. I suppose that is how I felt towards my relationship with God. I have known and loved Him all my life but could not embrace the life He gave me in my efforts alone. My new favorite movie is Seven Pounds. I really disliked this movie the first time I saw it. However, God started showing me things as I thought about the sacrifice the main character made, and when I watched it again, I was able to see a (fractional) parallel between the relationships portrayed in the movie and my own walk with Christ. As I said before, the past eight months have been a collaboration of people, places, and things that contributed to my healing BUT God was the Grand Facilitator and mastermind that not only allowed my heart to open but also gave me a new vision to see things differently. He has shown me that it is His workmanship that made ALL good things (even the achievements this world tries to offer it up as their own). |
| Favorite music | I enjoy all kinds of music but I love worship. Anything that allows my emotions to bubble in prayer and praise has my vote, but if I had to narrow it down to a few favorites, I would have to say Tenth Avenue North, Casting Crown, Jeremy Camp, and Josh Wilson. |
| Favorite books | Wow, this is a hard one. It is difficult to compare people’s work because they often evoke different emotions and understandings. There are also different purposes for writing a particular book. The author’s desired response may be to make the reader think, grow, laugh, or heal; so depending on the situation at the moment, my need for favoritism has little merit compared to the importance of reading it. But if I were asked what book has had the biggest impact on my life, (not counting the Bible) I would say, The Shack by William P. Young and Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. These are both fictional stories that encompasses lots of truth. God used both of these tangible sources of written words to help me embrace loss, guilt, forgiveness, and grace. The Holy Spirit was ultimately the true Healer but these books were tools He used to help me get from where I was stuck to where I am now. |
