| Introduction | My family arrived in London in the late 1960's when the Carmelite community in Kensington was first starting off as a parish. As children, our parents would make us walk across the park to attend Sunday mass at the Carmelite church. We grew up alongside the Carmelite friars who were very much second family to us supporting us through the ups and downs of childhood and adulthood, with Fr Peter as our Parish Priest for almost 20 years. It was around 1998 that his brother Fr Philip, put a leaflet under my nose and told me to read it. It was about the Secular Carmelites. Before then, I was not aware the Secular order existed. And so that was my calling... a nudge from Fr Philip's elbow (literally) brought to surface something that was there for many years..... a love for Carmel. I took my final promise as a Secular Carmelite in 2002. |
