| Introduction | I am a history and anthropology major at Utah State University with a *very* intense interest in fashion history! This blog is about my Undergraduate Research and Creative Opportunity (URCO) grant project. To better understand how everyday women lived in previous centuries, I am recreating and wearing a Victorian Era corset while monitoring how it affects my body. Misconceptions about corsetry have puzzled me for years and I want to know what is and is not true about the most controversial garment in human history. |
| Interests | The 18th and 19th centuries, textile/fashion history, The American Civil War, Reconstruction, The RMS Titanic, memes, sewing, amusement park history, reading, museums, and corsets, of course! |
| Favorite books | Valerie Steele "Corsets: A Cultural History", Janet Arnold "Patterns of Fashion 5", Jill Salen "Corsets", Alexandra Kim and Ingrid Mida "The Dress Detectives", Lucy Johnston and Marion Kite "Nineteenth-Century Fashion in Detail" |
