Introduction	85 years after the American, Gertrude Ederle became the first (Deaf) woman to swim the English Channel; John Docker is aiming to be the first Deaf man in the world to achieve this dream. John is setting out on his challenge in the summer of 2011, raising money for Deaf children. More people have climbed Mount Everest than have battled the waves, mastering the channel. The respected sports and exercise psychologist, Professor Andrew Lane, who coached David Walliams in his Channel swim, says: “The Channel is challenging even for the most able and getting across requires a bit of luck, lots of hard training and a resilient mindset.”.
