| Introduction | I do a weekly blog for my church website at www.rockofageslutheran.com The realm in which I write is what I like to call the “Modern Metaphor.” I like using images from everyday life and today’s relevant (and irrelevant events) to reflect theologically. Sometimes this viewpoint is called God-Spotting. Interestingly, I find it much more relevant to spot God in the everyday events and interests of people than the tried and true metaphors of the past. I came to Florida as a Mission Developer a little over four years ago to start a new congregation in Wildwood, Florida which has come to be named Rock of Ages Lutheran Church. Utilizing an ecumenical partnership with a neighboring Presbyterian church, we renovated their 126 year old original building and have been doing worship and outreach ministry from that facility for a year. Reaching out in our community and being relevant for today are foci that we weekly lift up. My own passion is for the Church that will be versus the Church that has been. Discovering how the Church will emerge in its evolution (away from the extinction that many fear) toward tomorrow is the hallmark of the new life and growth that we are seeking. |
