| Introduction | Dr. Scott Cohen, a pediatrician at Kaiser San Rafael since 2006, has been serving primarily low income patients in the U.S. and abroad since early in his career. In 1988, he was an Albert Schweitzer Fellow in Gabon, West Africa, and years later in Guatemala, he provided primary care for indigenous villagers and taught basic Western medicine to local health promoters. He received his M.D. from Tufts University in Boston in 1989 and completed his pediatric residency at Oakland Children’s Hospital in 1992. Scott was attending nursery physician at Alameda County Medical Center and Assistant Director of an inpatient unit at Oakland Children’s Hospital. He was lead editor for the American Academy of Pediatrics' newsletter on international child health and has published articles and chapters in text books on international child health topics. In 2002, he started Global Pediatric Alliance, a non-profit organization educating indigenous midwives and health promoters in remote regions of Latin America. |
